Bed Wetting Causes
Bed wetting causes vary depending on the person and their age. It is normal for young children to have problems with wetting the bed, and usually a child will grow out of wetting the bed. On the other hand, if an adult is wetting the bed they usually have a specific condition that needs to be treated.
But, if bed wetting continues to occur you may consider other causes that are interfering with the potty training. Some bed wetting causes in children are:
- The bladder may be undeveloped
- The child sleep too deep, their body does not awake before the wetting occurs
- A drastic change has occurred in the child’s life - such as divorce, moving, death in the family, sexual abuse, anxiety, etc.
Although bed wetting is a usual occurrence in children, adult bed wetting is very uncommon. Causes of adult bed wetting can include:
- An Enlarged Prostate
- Prostate Cancer
- Urinary Tract Infection
- Stones in the Urinary Tract
- Bladder Cancer
- Diabetes
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea
- Neurological Disorders
- Emotional Disorders
Regardless of the bed wetting causes, there is almost always a treatment to help the person find relief from the embarrassing occurrence. Treatments for children include behavior treatments, bed wetting alarms, or bed wetting pads. Treatments for adults focus specifically on the problem that is causing the bed wetting, and once that problem is treated the wetting usually stops.
